DEA Marijuana Eradication & Arrests in California 2009 – 2014

As the country’s largest marijuana producer, California has borne the brunt of the federal war on marijuana.

In 2014, 62% of the marijuana plants eradicated nationally were in California, down from 72% in 2009. Notably, even though federal marijuana cultivation arrests have fallen nationally by 37%, they have increased in California by 42% since 2009.

With the state on the verge of legalizing adult use, and the DEA seriously debating rescheduling marijuana, California could see a dramatic shift in the way the federal government intervenes in the state’s marijuana markets in the coming year.
