What Else is the Size of California’s Cannabis Market
Assuming California’s Adult Use Marijuana Act passes this November, California’s total market size for 2018 is projected to be approximately $4.3 billion. To get a better understanding of the size of this market, we have compared it to the size of other markets along with the cost of some common consumer goods. The size of Netflix’s 2015 total sales was $6.7 billion, or roughly 1.6 times the size of the 2018 California Market. Given the value of California’s cannabis market size, one could buy 1.9 billion gallons of gasoline, 476 million bottles of wine, or 6.5 million iPhone 7 devices. Given that California’s cannabis market will only encompass cannabis activity from California, we looked at California’s population and found that this equates to roughly 50 gallons of gas per resident, 12 bottles of wine per resident, or 1 iPhone 7 for 1 of every 6 Californians.
