Over the past 20 years, the number of arrests for drug possession has increased 17% from 1.1 million in 1995 to 1.3 million in 2014.
Marijuana possession remains the biggest contributor, accounting for nearly half of all arrests in 2014.
Even though they only account for 6% of all arrests, the number of arrests for synthetic or manufactured drugs like methamphetamines and bath salts have increased dramatically, growing 238% from 22,142 to 74,939.
