“Yes” Votes on State Marijuana Ballot Initiatives
The election on November 8th brought about a major change for the cannabis industry with eight of nine states passing marijuana ballot initiatives. The most notable state to adopt new marijuana legislation being California with the 55.8% ‘Yes’ vote for the Adult Use Marijuana Act. Starting in 2018, 39 million additional people will have access to adult use cannabis in California. In the largest new medical market, Florida, an additional 20 million people will have access to medical marijuana with its 71.3% ‘Yes’ vote. In total, 82 million people will experience a change in access to cannabis as each these eight states implement their new marijuana programs.
