Alaska has the highest electricity rates among the markets where adult use of marijuana is currently legal, as well as the highest rates when compared to the seven states most likely to full legalize marijuana in 2016.
The higher rates in California and the states in the northeast U.S. will make the cost of electricity impact operational expenses more significantly, especially for large-scale commercial indoor growers, than in western states where energy rates are approximately 35% lower.
This lower cost of doing business could lead to more marijuana-based businesses expanding operations in the western U.S. states in the years to come.
