The Wide Gender Gap In Medical Marijuana Program Participation
December 18, 2015Colorado, which has the largest medical marijuana patient population, also had the highest patient to population ratio with 2.1% of its residents participating in the program. In two other states, Oregon and Arizona, patients account for more than one percent of the overall population.
States with newer or more restrictive programs all had patient ratios well below one percent.
This data suggests that, even in states with expansive medical marijuana programs and high rates of recreational marijuana use, like Colorado and Oregon, the patient population is unlikely to exceed two percent of the overall population.
